Alatek, Inc. Signs 8 Million Dollar OEM Agreement With Aldec, Inc.

Las Vegas NV, May 15th 2001
Alatek, Inc., an OEM supplier of intellectual property and hardware acceleration technology, announced today a definitive agreement with Aldec, Inc. to license Alatek's patented Hardware Embedded Simulation (HES) technology. The eight million dollar, three-year OEM agreement provides Aldec with the non-exclusive rights to resell Alatek's hardware acceleration technology as part of its new generation of UNIX-based HDL simulation technology, which is scheduled to be announced at the DAC Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada June 18-20, 2001. As part of the contract, Alatek will license a broad range of hardware accelerators for System-on-Chip (SoC) and ASIC design applications to Aldec.

Alatek selected an OEM business model for its hardware accelerator that works with all leading HDL simulators from Aldec™, Cadence®, Mentor Graphics ® and Synopsys®. Aldec is the first company to enter into an agreement for Alatek's hardware accelerators.

Patented in 1995, Alatek's HES product is comprised of hardware boards that work in conjunction with the Design Verification Manager, automatically recreating design hierarchy and allowing users to select any hierarchical RTL block to be instantly accelerated in hardware. The RTL blocks in hardware and software communicate with one another on an event-by-event basis using PLI and FLI communications protocols and provide huge speed improvement without any manual operations, which are the biggest shortcoming of other hardware accelerators and emulators.

About Alatek
Since its inception in January 1997, Alatek has specialized in the development of hardware accelerators and intellectual property (IP) cores. Alatek has an OEM business model for hardware accelerators and direct sales model for the IP cores and design services. It is currently supplying Aldec with HES hardware accelerators and pursuing similar OEM opportunities with other simulator vendors. Alatek offers high quality, low cost synthesizable cores for devices such as micro-controllers, PC peripherals, bus interfaces, and free simulation models. Having broad expertise in design simulation and verification, particularly for Altera and Xilinx FPGA structures, Alatek operates as a full-service design house. Alatek is a privately held company with offices in Nevada serving the U.S. and Asia and offices in Poland serving the European market. About Aldec
Aldec, Inc. has offered PC and Workstation-based design entry and simulation solutions to FPGA and ASIC designers for more than 16 years. During this time, Aldec has signed several OEM agreements with IC vendors, such as Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) and Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY). Aldec, headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, produces a universal suite of Windows, Linux and UNIX-based EDA tools that allow design engineers to implement their designs using several different design entry methods (Schematic Capture, State Machine, Block Diagram, VHDL, Verilog or ABEL). Aldec incorporates patented simulation technology and several design entry tools to provide a complete design entry and simulation solution. Founded in 1984, the company continues to evolve in the EDA market as the fastest growing verification company in the world.
